Coimbatore: There is another brain death followed by body organ donation. The victim's name is Gnanaprakasham, a 26-year old who turned brain dead after a road accident on Decemer 17th here at Coimbatore. “Gnanaprakasham is not dead. He lives in those who received his kidneys, eyes and liver,” gastroenterologist and laparoscopy surgeon
at Sri Ramakrishna Hospital S. Vijayakumar told presspersons here recently. The press conference was conducted in an effort at appealing to larger sections of the public about organ donations of brain dead patients. The culture change is really a great news for those patients that have failed organs and could not find right donors. In case of the patients who received organs from Gnanaprakasham, "All of them are doing well after the surgery" claimed Dr.Vijayakumar who insisted that we need to do a lot about creating awareness in this area. No arguments on that. However, should we be not looking at the cause of these deaths ? Almost all of them are caused by those that were riding motorcycles without wearing helmets. Is it not time that we bring back the law that made it mandatory ? Should we not increase the awareness about wearing helmet and other safety practices while riding or driving ?
