Coimbatore: The members of the Coimbatore Bar Association on Friday staged a demonstration inside the court complex and raised slogans against the police for the violent incidents at the Madras High Court in Chennai on Thursday.
Earlier, the association members held a general body meeting to decide on the future course of agitation. The agitated lawyers marched from the association premises towards the main gate on Arts College Road and raised slogans against the police, Janata Party leader Subramaniam Swamy and also against a section of the media accusing them of bias. Commotion prevailed in the area for some time.
The lawyers had locked the main gates and prevented the entry of police and media personnel. However, reports said that windscreen of one of the TNSTC buses standing inside the court premises was smashed.
The Race Course Police have registered a case against 20 unidentified advocates in connection with the torching of a police vehicle inside the Sessions Court complex on Thursday night. The police have also registered a case against 20 advocates for burning Subramania Swamy effigy near the court complex.
