Coimbatore: The inaugural function of VOYCE (Voice of Youth For Clean Environment) club was held at Rathinam College of Arts and Science situated near Echanari, Coimbatore on 13/01/2009 at 11.00 AM in the seminar Hall with the objective of imparting environmental awareness among the college students and to the near by general population . The volunteers will serve as a green brigade for Coimbatore city.
Thiru R.Chakarvarthy, Asst. Commissioner of Police, Crime, West Coimbatore city inaugurated the VOYCE club and delivered the key note address.
In his address he recalled his youth days where he lived in an environment where everything was clean including the minds of our public. He said that today not only our earth is polluted, our human minds are also heavily polluted in the ways of corruption, terrorism, violence, religious fanaticism etc.
He asked the students to play a crucial rule in brining eco awareness among the students community and as well as the citizens of Coimbatore. He asked the volunteers of the Voyce club to actively work in developing green space around the college and in the city. He requested them to teach people to keep the city green and clean.
He imparted four golden rules for the youth -
1. Never throw the waste in public places.
2. Never cut trees and try to plant a sapling every day.
3. Neither cive nor take Bribe.
4. Share your food with the needy.
He asked all the students and the staff of the college to practice these four golden rules which will create a clean environment in and around Coimbatore.
The Welcome address was given by Dr. R.Mummatchi, Principal of the college. In his address he requested the college students to practice their environmental awareness from their class rooms itself. The presidential address was given by Dr. Madhan.A.Sendhil, Chairman, Rathinam Group. In his address he stressed the need of such clubs in the colleges and said that the students community should grow with the sense of responsibility for shaping our country and to fight pollution.
Felicitations were given by environmentalists M.Yoganathan and S. Murugan and they shared their experiences and initiatives for making Coimbatore green by planting more trees and reaching every schools and colleges and explaining them about the eco problems that we face today.
The function ended with a Vote of thanks proposed by Prof. K.Vijayan, Vice-Principal, Rathinam College.
