The local chapter of the Air Force Wives Welfare Association, 5 Base Repair Depot, Sulur has embarked upon the noble task of taking care  of the educational needs of under privileged children in the nearby localities of Sulur.  The special school ,  amed  as 'Savera' was inaugurated on 11 Sep. 2007 by Air Cmde PK Srivastava VSM, Air Officer Commanding, 5 Base Repair Depot and Mrs. Sobhna Srivastava, President AFWWA (L) in the presence of the Air Force personnel of 5 Base Repair Depot and the civilians from nearby locality.  At present the school is known as 'Umeed Literacy Centre'.
 

The purpose of the school is to impart basic education to all under priviledged children in and around the area. The school provides all educational materials including school uniform free of cost.  Each student studying at 'Umeed Literacy Centre' is provided with a separate chair and a table.  Breakfast and mid day meals are also served during the session. The initial strength of 10 children at the beginning has increased into 60 at present.   The admission at 'Umeed Literacy Centre' is open to all under privileged children irrespective of caste, creed or religion.  The faculty and the office staff of the school are members of the Air Force Wives Welfare Association(Local) and they have taken up the task as a service to the helpless children.

This noble task of forming the 'Umeed Literacy Centre' is the outcome of the service mindedness and commitment of Mrs. Sobhna Srivastava, President Air Force Wives Welfare Association (Local).
